There is a new bilingual COVID-19 testing site that corresponds with free meal pickup offered by Care and Share at the Southeast YMCA.
About 250-300 families are assisted each week with food and about 15 individuals with COVID-19 testing who are experiencing symptoms (no insurance or preauthorization needed). Testing and food distribution will take place at the Southeast YMCA every Monday from 12-2 pm this summer. On July 27th, backpacks will be given to those families with kids/teens.
Last week, recipients were asked how the services provided are helping them. Here are a few quotes translated by our friends at Servicios de la Raza.
- “It helps me a lot that I am able to get my COVID testing done and also get food for my family at the same location, I don’t have to drive around Colorado Springs looking for the resources, they are all here.”
- “The work you are doing for our community does not go unnoticed, I appreciate the time and dedication you are all investing into helping immigrants especially since we don’t have too many resources available for us that we know of.”
- “I come every week to get food, this helps my family a lot since my husband has lost hours at his job and he is the sole provider for our family, we are undocumented and we were not sure how we were going to survive during these hard times.”
- “It is nice to see these organizations coming together that are genuinely concerned with our health and well-being. My family appreciates this help.”
