PPLD Parenting Little Ones: Q&A Series @ Online via Zoom

PPLD’s Family Place Libraries is hosting a six-week series on Zoom where caregivers can ask questions of community professionals in the fields of safety, school readiness, development, potty training, and more. The topics are different for the July session. We changed them based on the results we saw from our April session’s surveys. This series will take place each Thursday in July from 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Registration is required. Parents and caregivers register for each session separately. For more information about the Parenting Little Ones series and links to register, please visit ppld.org/ParentingQandA

Thursday, July 1, 7:30-8:30 pm What’s the Risk? (Safety)

This week’s resource professionals include Amanda Abramczyk-Thill, a Prevention Education & Outreach Coordinator at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Becky Huyge, Site Supervisor and Parent Support Provider with SafeCare Colorado/Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains, and Kathy Hook, Fire and Life Safety Educator and Intervention Specialist for the Colorado Springs Fire Department. They are able to talk about and answer questions about SAFETY. We will be giving out 1 gift card to participants at this session!

Thursday, July 8, 7:30-8:30 pm Active Learners (Enrichment Activities)

This week’s resource professionals are Alanna Jones, Children’s Librarian with PPLD, Lynn Shepherd, Creation Cafe Yoga Instructor, and Brittany Fechko, Hike it Baby Colorado Springs Branch Ambassador. They are able to talk about and answer questions about activities you can do to help your young children learn and thrive! We will be giving out 1 gift card to participants at this session! 

Thursday, July 15, 7:30-8:30 pm PreK & Kindergarten Prep (School Readiness & Montessori Methods)

This week’s resource professionals are Holly Van Wieren, a Literacy Specialist and former Kindergarten teacher, Marah Denton, a Montessori Directress with Hope Montessori, and a representative from Alliance for Kids. They are able to talk about and answer questions about School Readiness (Pre-school and Kindergarten preparation), Montessori methods, and finding great preschools. We will be giving out 1 gift card to participants at this session! 

Thursday, July 22, 7:30-8:30 pm Is This Normal? (Development)

This week’s resource professionals are Anne Hersom, a Developmental Interventionist with TRE, and Ellie Haddad, an Occupational Therapist with TRE. An HCP Care Coordinator will also be joining us. They are able to talk about and answer questions about Development and the El Paso County Health HCP program. We will be giving out 1 gift card to participants at this session!

Thursday, July 29, 7:30-8:30 pm Big Emotions & Big Behaviors (Mental Health, Social Skills, Behavior)

This week’s resource professionals are Chari Redwine, Licensed Professional Counselor and Child First Clinical Supervisor for Savio House, Windy Doan, Behavioral Health Supervisor with CPCD Head Start, and Paula Hergert, Prevention & Policy Specialist with the Maternal Child Health Program at El Paso County Health. They are able to talk about and answer questions about Behavior, Mental Health, and Social Skills. We will be giving out 1 gift card to participants at this session!

Thursday, August 5, 7:30-8:30 pm The Bottom Line (Potty Training, Elimination Communication, & Cloth Diapers) 

This week’s resource professionals are Anne Hersom, Developmental Interventionist with TRE, and Kelly Epstein, owner of Bundle Baby Cloth Diapers, and an EC representative. They are able to talk about and answer questions about Potty Training, Elimination Communication, and Cloth Diapering. We will be giving out 1 gift card to participants at this session!

FREE PPLD Prenatal Series @ Online via Zoom

PPLD and Nurse Family Partnership are partnering to present a 6-week series that invites expecting parents to attend to learn about topics related to pregnancy, labor & delivery, the first six weeks following birth, nutrition, infant feeding, breastfeeding, and more. Each week features a different topic. Community professionals present information and are available to answer questions. The Prenatal sessions take place on Zoom on Wednesdays from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. starting July 7, 2021. Presenters are available from 1 – 1:30 p.m. to answer additional questions. To learn more about the series and the individual sessions, please visit https://ppld.org/whats-new/prenatal-series. Registration is required; however, each session has an individual registration so expecting and new parents can select the topics that most interest them – see topics below. In addition, participants earn one entry for a $50 gift card each time they attend one of the Prenatal Series sessions. One $50 gift card will be given away at the conclusion of the July session!

Each session attended earns you an entry for a prize to be given away following the last session. You can earn up to six entries!

  • July 7: Birth Plan, Labor & Delivery, and the First Week After Birth
    This session will cover birth plans and alternatives to medicines. We will discuss medications you may encounter in the hospital, the first week after birth, what happens in the hospital, and more!
  • July 14: Postpartum – The First 6 Weeks
    Wonder what life will be like the first six weeks after your baby is born? At this session, we will discuss healing, rest, and mental health in postpartum. Learn about self-care during pregnancy and after baby’s arrival, so you can take care of yourself, too!
  • July 21: Sleep and Purple Crying
    Having trouble getting enough rest? Learn techniques to help you and your newborn rest. Discover what the Purple Crying Period is and tools you can use to help calm your baby. Learn about the Best Start Program and how you can get a Best Start Baby Box.
  • July 28: Breastfeeding
    This session will cover breastfeeding how-to’s, latching, support, education, and more!
  • Aug. 4: Nutrition and Infant Feeding
    Do you wonder what nutrition looks like during pregnancy and postpartum? We will discuss nutrition for mom and also look at infant feeding. Learn about WIC and the resources it offers.
  • Aug. 11: Early Literacy and Prenatal Yoga
    This week learn about brain development and the five early literacy practices to begin at birth. Then practice a few prenatal moves introduced by a certified yoga instructor. Finally, learn about Peak Vista’s First Visitor program.
Health and Wellness Workshop: For Early Educators and Parents of Young Children @ Online via Zoom

Join us for a fun workshop on health, nutrition, and wellness! Learn about the sugar in beverages, how to eat more fruits/vegetables, and get more active with your family. This free online workshop is designed for teachers and parents of young children!
