Safe Kids Colorado Springs offers a subsidized car seat program to provide low-cost seats to families who cannot afford to purchase a new car seat. “Infant” car seats (the kind with the carrying handle and separate base) are not available, but they do offer convertible car seats that start at 5 pounds and fit most newborns. One advantage of using a convertible seat from birth is that it will last the child much longer since it can also be used forward-facing.
The subsidized cost of the seat is $30. We are scheduling appointments at our next event on Tuesday, March 19 from 3 pm to 6 pm near the intersection of Airport Road/S. Academy. A 45-minute appointment teaches the parents how to use and install the car seat into their vehicle.
